Meg and Jessica call for Safer Roads

Monday, August 11, 2008

When 10 year old Jessica Saunby of Meadowhead Avenue nudged out in front of an illegally parked van on Bocking Lane she was nearly knocked over. Vehicles parked illegally on the pavement make it very difficult to see if the road is clear to cross. After this distressing experience whilst crossing to go to the shops, she contacted her local MP Meg Munn.

Meg went to visit Jessica to talk about the problem and walk the route she takes. It wasn’t long before the problem became clear. There were a van and a car parked illegally, which meant crossing Bocking Lane, before the roundabout near Greenhill Library, was extremely difficult and dangerous, even for an adult.

Meg said:

‘I’m extremely concerned to hear of the incident involving Jessica; she could have been killed or seriously injured. This on a road with a Primary School not far away. I have contacted Sheffield City Council to ask for a safe crossing to be installed on Bocking Lane, and for them to enforce parking laws.’
