Supporting Derbyshire Lane Post Office

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

Heeley MP Meg Munn is opposed to the proposed closure of the Post Office branch on Derbyshire Lane in Norton. She believes the closure proposal from Post Office Ltd is wrong as their decision has not taken into account all the factors that come into play regarding the location for this particular Post Office. She has written to Post Office Ltd outlining her concerns and asking for a re-examination of the criteria concerning this branch.

Meg said:

“Having been brought up in the area I understand the concerns of local people about closing this branch. On the day of the announcement I went to talk with the proprietor of Derbyshire Lane Post Office to discuss the situation with him. I confirmed that I will press for this decision to be re-examined.

My staff met with representatives of Post Office Ltd to outline my concerns, and I have responded in writing to the closure consultation. I urge everyone living in the area to write to Post Office Ltd and demand that they re-examine their decision.

Post Office Ltd makes the argument that people can access Thorpe House and Woodseats Post Office branches via the bus service. Their argument is flawed. Buses do go down Derbyshire Lane, but there are no direct services to the so-called alternative Post Office branches. I support the local campaign to keep Derbyshire Lane Post Office open.”
