Heeley faith leaders meeting

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Meg Munn, MP for Sheffield Heeley hosted a breakfast meeting with faith leaders from across Heeley constituency recently. It was the latest in a regular series of meetings that Meg holds with them and provides an opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues affecting local communities.

Meg said:

“I really appreciate the faith leaders taking time out of their busy schedules to come and discuss issues affecting the communities they work in. The meeting was valuable and I hope to schedule another for early on in the New Year.”

Amongst the issues discussed were the banking ‘bonus culture’, energy charges and fuel poverty within poorer communities, with some present questioning the ethical policies of the larger energy companies. The effect of the economic crisis and the employment repercussions were also discussed, the community projects to get people back into work were highly praised.

The final issue discussed was that of immigration, asylum and citizenship exams. The faith leaders felt that there needed to be more guidance for those applying for citizenship with regards to payment, as well as questioning topics that appear in the citizenship exam text book. Meg invited all of the faith leaders within Heeley; if you are a faith leader and did not receive an invite please contact Meg’s office.
