Changing Bus routes

Monday, July 19, 2010

Meg Munn recently met Pam Horner, External Relations Manager at South Yorkshire Passenger Transport and Richard Simons from First Buses to discuss changes to bus routes.  They met during a site visit to Chancet Wood, one of the areas affected by the changed announced by First.  The new proposed service means that the hourly bus service will finish at 14.20 every weekday and there will be no service on a Saturday and Sunday.

Meg pressed First to extend the hours to include later buses, and also to get some weekend service.  However they were adamant that with the present usage they are unable to reverse their decision.  It was agreed that First and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport will monitor the usage, and if the new service continues to be regularly used then they will reconsider the situation.

Pam Horner commented that residents can also use the Community Transport on the grounds of social exclusion rather than disability.

Meg said:

“This decision by First will leave local residents without a full service. I will continue to press the operators to provide better services where they are needed.

It is important that people use the services currently provided to ensure their continuation use them or lose them.”
