Greenhill roundabout discussions

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Local MP Meg Munn recently met representatives from the Council’s Highway Scheme to discuss the changes being made to the Hemper Lane/ Fox Lane roundabout in Greenhill.

For many years Meg has been concerned with safety around the roundabout, cars park at all sides making it difficult for people to cross the road safely. Young people from Greenhill Primary and Meadowhead Secondary School are regularly about as they journey to and from school. It’s vital that the area is safe for pedestrians and drivers alike.

Meg was shown the detailed plans for around the roundabout, and discussed issues such as the length of double yellow lines and location of a pedestrian crossing. She highlighted a specific concern of a constituent regarding the glare of the lights from the crossing into their home and was advised that a cover will be put over the light to reduce this.

Meg said:

“At busy periods it can be a bit if a nightmare around the roundabout in Greenhill. With so many cars parked up on all sides, and people trying to cross from every angle, I’m surprised there aren’t more accidents.

I considered the plans the Council has put forward and I do believe that they could make a positive change to the area.”
