Bowling along at Guilford Grange

Wednesday, June 1, 2011

Local MP Meg Munn called into Guilford Grange in Arbourthorne recently to meet a number of residents. The facility is a purpose built ‘Extra Care’ Supported Housing Scheme for older people who require care and support to enable them to remain independent.

Meg talked to a number of residents over a coffee, and they only had positive things to say about where they live. All were delighted to be living at Guilford Grange and couldn’t think of any changes they would like to make. The group were practicing their bowling skills as they have a tournament coming up with other Housing Scheme residents and are hoping to defend the trophy that they won last year.

The facility is managed by Places for People Individual Support, a specialist provider of care and support services. The building opened in April 2004, and is set in its own well-maintained landscaped gardens. The accommodation comprises 40 2-bedroomed self-contained flats, 4 of which are fully accessible for wheelchair users.

Meg said:

“Everyone was in great spirits this morning, enjoying getting together and doing a bit of bowling. I talked to staff and residents and all seemed really happy with how things are going at Guildford Grange.

The staff at Guilford Grange aim to provide residents with the care and support that they need to enable them to retain, maximise and develop life skills and independence. The philosophy here is to ‘do with’ you rather than ‘for you’. It seems they are succeeding.”
