Sheffield furniture maker under threat

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Meg Munn MP recently had a tour of the Remploy factory at Brightside, which employs people with disabilities from across the City. Workers and union representatives told Meg of their concerns over planned government changes, which could result in the factory closing and the loss of jobs for people with disabilities. At present 85 people are employed at the Remploy factory making equipment for UK schools, including tables and chairs.

Meg said:

“I’ll be raising concerns about the proposed changes with the government. I’m concerned that local disabled people will find themselves out of work and with limited opportunities for employment in this tough economic climate.

Remploy offers workers so much more than employment. They also provide extra support, which can help people in many different ways and help them to live independently.”
