Planting the tree
Tuesday, January 31, 2012
Local MP Meg Munn visited Arbourthorne Community Primary school to help the pupils plant a Tibetan Cherry Tree at the school’s entrance. The pupils also took part in a lesson as part of the tree planting, where they discovered more about the importance of Sheffield’s trees and their role in combating climate change.
Meg said:
“The tree planting was a great opportunity for the students to learn more about Sheffield’s woodlands and wildlife. It’s fantastic that they had this very practical opportunity to learn whilst planting this beautiful tree, which I hope will form a suitable entrance to the school for many years. ”
The lesson and tree planting was given by the City Council’s Community Forestry team in partnership with the school. For more information on Community Forestry in Arbourthorne please contact Angus Hunter, Community Forestry officer, on 0114 250 0500.
