Developing St. Wilfrid’s good work

Wednesday, June 6, 2012

Meg Munn MP recently met patrons and supporters of St. Wilfrid’s Centre at an event they organised to raise awareness about the charity and the work they do helping homeless and vulnerable people in Sheffield. As she has visited their base in the city a number of times Meg was well aware of their excellent work and wanted to show her support for the organisation.

Last year St. Wilfrid’s celebrated its 20th anniversary as well as developing its skills workshop to help its clients increase their confidence and self-esteem, courtesy of the Big Lottery ‘People’s Millions’ as seen on ITV. The charity also received a huge donation from Simrin Choudhrie through the popular Channel 4 programme ‘secret millionaire’. Simrin was blown away by the centre’s efforts to directly improve people’s quality of life and the array of services on offer.

St. Wilfrid’s plans to expand its services and hopes to build a new residential centre for up to 50 people, providing 2 years fixed term accommodation for vulnerable people in Sheffield who are affected by homelessness, mental health problems or social exclusion.

Meg said:

“I know from my visits to St. Wilfrid’s that they provide important services for many people who are experiencing severe problems in their life. The project for a residential centre is one that deserves support and I am delighted that their work has been recognised more widely. It was brilliant to see staff from St. Wilfrid’s in the House of Commons and I wish them well with their fundraising efforts for this worthwhile venture.”
