The Kwik Cricket challenge

Friday, June 8, 2012

Stradbroke Primary School recently received a special visit from their local MP Meg Munn. She came to present pupils with a Kwik Cricket set to encourage more young people to take up the sport and try their hand in the national competition. It’s the perfect format for primary school children to be introduced to the sport, as it uses a soft ball and everyone gets a go.

The Asda Kwik Cricket competition is the largest grassroots initiative for any sport in the UK, and the exercise helps get children healthy and active. Stradbroke Primary was nominated by their local County Cricket Board to receive the Kwik Cricket set so pupils could start to take part in the competition which has nearly 140,000 young cricketers from 12,000 primary schools taking part.

Kwik Cricket is an integral part of the England and Wales Cricket Board’s aim of increasing the levels of participation amongst children. The competition takes place on a local, county, regional and national level, with teams that progress through the competition playing against the best teams from the UK at the National Final in Leicestershire County Cricket Club on July 17th.

Meg said:

“In the run up this summer’s Olympics there’s never been a better time to encourage children to get involved in sport, and Kwik Cricket is a great way for them to get active and have fun.  It’s very easy so everyone can play. I’m sure that the pupils of Stradbroke Primary School will make great use of this kit and enjoy taking part in the competition with children from across the UK.”
