“S8’s Best kept secret”

Friday, February 8, 2013

During a recent visit to Laycocks Sports Club local MP Meg Munn met Roger Thrift, one of the Trustees, and Steve Turley, the Chair of the Management Committee. Roger and Steve gave Meg a tour of the impressive facilities and explained that the club was very much a family and community resource.  Families are particularly welcome at the Club with all generations catered for tennis; football, bowls, pantomime; pool; widescreen television; outdoor play areas; and of course the bar.

The Club are experiencing some difficulties due to the river Sheaf flooding the grounds so Meg agreed to take the issue up on their behalf with Sheffield City Council and Yorkshire Water. Yorkshire Water have responded and been very helpful, agreeing to repair a leaking pipe and as a gesture of goodwill will carry out some investigations and clean-up some of the damage caused by the flooding.

Meg said:

“It was good to get the chance to see firsthand the great facilities at Laycocks Sports Club.  I was really impressed by their emphasis on creating a real family club in the heart of the local community and ensuring activities and facilities cater for all age groups. I was delighted to see bowling greens and tennis courts and the other outdoor facilities which encourage children and young people to keep fit - a real community asset.

I have been in touch with Yorkshire Water and Sheffield City Council and hope this will bring about a speedy resolution of the flooding problems so the site is ready for use as warmer weather approaches. Thumbs up to Yorkshire Water as they have been out to the site already and as a gesture of good will are helping to clean up the flood damage and investigate the problems further”
