Improving Sheffield’s roads the ‘Streets Ahead’ project

Monday, August 19, 2013

Meg Munn MP recently met Vernon Silcock and Dave Taylor from the ‘Streets Ahead’ team at one of their communications events in Woodseats. Meg wanted to find out more about the huge city-wide highways maintenance project.

The work undertaken by ‘Streets Ahead’ will include smoother roads and surfaces, brighter and more energy efficient street lights and new, healthier highway trees. Vernon and Dave were keen to stress that the project will bring benefits much beyond improving journeys and told Meg that the work is also vital in supporting the growth and visual appearance of the city.

Meg expressed her concern about the levels of disruption residents may experience once the project starts. However, the ‘Streets Ahead’ team assured her that they will be communicating regularly with those affected and will send out letters informing residents of the timescales and the type of work to expect, on a detailed street by street basis.

Meg said:

“It was great to meet Vernon and Dave and find out more about the fantastic work that ‘Streets Ahead’ will be undertaking. Although we will experience some disruptions when the work starts, I think it mean we will have roads with smoother surfaces, as well as a safer environment which should lead to fewer accidents.”

Streets Ahead are holding a number of communications events this week. You can go and meet the team to find out more about the work to be carried out in your area at the following locations:

Today 19th August at Aldi and Sainsbury’s Supermarket, Archer Road, 10.30am 3.30pm

Tuesday 20th August at Morrison’s Supermarket, Meadowhead, 4pm 7pm
