Fun in Norton and Lowedges

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

Local MP Meg Munn visited both Norton Show, and Lowedges Festival, over an August weekend. The weather was unpredictable but fortunately the events got away with only short showers.

This was the 109th Annual Norton Show and boasted all the ingredients of a country event. Animals were on show with competitions for different types of dogs and a horse riding event. The produce tent had some very impressive cauliflowers and the obligatory large marrows. Throughout the day there was musical entertainment and plenty of food outlets to feed the hungry.

In contrast the Lowedges Festival is a relative newcomer, but it continues to go from strength to strength with many charities having stalls, fairground rides and varied entertainment right across Greenhill Park. Meg joined Shaun Wright, South Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, to encourage more people to join up as Special Constables. The local Labour Party also had a stall with Councillors Clive Skelton and Roy Munn on hand to answer questions.

Meg said:

“These are excellent community events and make for a great day out, I always enjoy them. It’s a really good opportunity to meet new people and old friends as well as supporting local charities. Congratulations to all the volunteers who worked hard to ensure such well run and popular events.”
