Fundraising for St Wilfrid’s Residential Project

Thursday, October 3, 2013

Meg Munn MP joined forces with her Sheffield colleagues, MPs Paul Blomfield, David Blunkett and Clive Betts to raise money to build a new residential unit at St Wilfrid’s. The running total currently stands at over 2,200.

The MPs took part in a ‘Red Rose Relay Walk’ with the 2.5 mile route passing through each of their four constituencies before finishing at St Wilfrid’s. As the walk progressed into each constituency, each MP handed a red rose ‘baton’ to the next MP.

The proposed residential unit for up to 50 people would be based a short walk from the existing day centre. People would live there for up to 2 years whilst attending classes at the day centre Monday to Friday.  This would allow them to increase their employable and social skills.

You can still support the ‘Red Rose Relay’ at: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=SheffieldMPsRedRoseRelay&isTeam=true

Meg said:

“As local Members of Parliament it’s a privilege to be able to help an organisation that gives so much to the community. Sponsoring us in our ‘Red Rose Relay’ means you can directly contribute to the exciting new residential project so that St Wilfrid’s can continue to support those who often have nowhere else to go.”

Paul Blomfield, MP said:

“St Wilfrid’s centre provides fantastic support and services for vulnerable adults. We’re supporting their appeal to build a residential unit which will enhance the excellent work already being done there.”

David Blunkett, MP said:

“Who knows when one of us or our families will need the support of the kind that St Wilfrid’s offer. That’s why at a time of deep austerity we are all doing our best to help those who lose out the most.”

Clive Betts, MP said:

“I am delighted to be taking part and raising money for St Wilfrid’s who do excellent work.”

Kevin Bradley, Director at St Wilfrid’s, said:

“It’s great to have our four local MP’s support us in this way. Together they can help us build our dream.”
