Securing the future for Newfield School

Thursday, November 21, 2013

Local MP Meg Munn recently visited Newfield School to discuss the proposals for it to convert to an academy school. She met Ed Wydenbach, Chair of Governors, Lesley Bowes, Executive Head and Tim Aldridge the Head.

Meg highlighted that some parents had expressed concerns about aspects of the consultation process. In a full discussion Ed gave his assurances to Meg that Newfield had attempted to be as open and transparent as possible throughout the consultation process.

Regarding the school’s proposed conversion to an academy, Meg was happy to hear about the success of the learning partnership Newfield has with King Ecgbert School and the benefits this has brought to both schools. Ed explained that the governing body feel that becoming a sponsored academy had the potential to strengthen the school, bringing about lasting and sustainable improvements for the pupils.

Meg said:

“Given the past problems at Newfield, it was good to hear from Ed, Lesley and Tim about their plans for the future. I understand that some parents may still have concerns about the move towards academy status, but I have every confidence that with a continuation of the current leadership, Newfield can look forward to a really positive future.”
