Woodseats ‘Bake off’ for Sheffield’s Young Carers

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

Local MP Meg Munn was delighted to attend the Woodseats Medical Centre ‘Bake Off’ where staff and patients pulled out all the stops to fundraise for local charity Sheffield Young Carers Project. From lemon drizzle to Victoria sponge, home-baked cakes were sold and charity t-shirts donned, with well over 100 raised.

The Sheffield Young Carers Project supports children and young people between the ages of eight and 21 who care for someone at home, usually a parent, with a chronic illness, disability, mental health or substance misuse issues. Some time ago the charity asked Meg to become a Patron; she was honoured to do so.

The project receives some government funding but relies heavily on charitable funds and the Sheffield community to continue providing services, including regular group activities and one-to-one support.

Meg said:

“It was great to see Woodseats Medical Centre taking an active role in the community by highlighting the vital role that young carers play throughout Sheffield. Young carers can often feel vulnerable and isolated, so it is important that we ensure they get support from the Sheffield Young Carers group.”
