National Pensioners Lobby

Thursday, September 9, 2004

Meg met constituents Mary & Albert Foster from Gleadless Valley and Jean Grayson from Arbourthorne when they came to Parliament as part of the lobby organised by the National Pensioners Convention. They presented Meg with the first ever Pensioners’ Manifesto, asking for Dignity, Security and Fulfilment in Retirement.

Mr & Mrs Foster were concerned about the complexity of arrangements for financial help and about the introduction of the Post Office card account. All three wanted free bus travel for pensioners and disabled people. They joined hundreds of pensioners from around the country who had come to see their MPs. The comprehensive manifesto also includes a call for an increase in the basic state pension and free annual health checks.

The photo shows Meg, her constituents and other Sheffield residents on the lobby.
