Sheffield’s new co-operative resource centre

Monday, May 12, 2014

Principle Five, a resource centre dedicated to co-operative education has opened in Sheffield and Meg Munn MP recently went to visit.

It features a lending library, an extensive collection of periodicals, pamphlets and information about the activities of the co-op movement in the region. With generous support from the East of England Co-operative Society, the lending library now holds a substantial collection.

Founder Steve Thompson told Meg that over the coming months the collection will be added to and refined, and the centre will forge links with other archives and libraries. It will also hold talks, classes and film screenings.

The centre takes its name from the fifth of the seven co-operative principles which states that co-ops provide education and training for co-operators and inform the general public about the movement.

Meg said:

“The Principle Five centre is a wonderful place to come and learn about the co-operative movement and the values that underpin it. I hope co-operators and others across Yorkshire will come and make use of this fantastic resource.”

For details or to book a visit, contact Steve Thompson on 0114 2589412 or email steve@sheffield.coop
