Funding overhaul set to hit local GPs

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

Local MP Meg Munn recently met staff from Meersbrook Medical Centre who are in line to be hit by the NHS England announcement that it will be withdrawing the ‘Minimum Practice Income Guarantee’.

Across the country this will see GPs across the country lose 118 million, with the Meersbrook Centre at risk of losing around 3000 per month. These funding proposals will affect smaller practices with already limited resources, and where there is greater demands being placed upon our primary care services.

Meersbrook Medical Centre has over 1500 patients registered and has been a key part of the local community for a number of years. Its patients are very happy with the service they receive, with the vast majority of them able to see a doctor within 2 days of making an appointment.

Dr Patel explained that he is hopeful that working with NHS England and the local Clinical Commissioning Group, he will be able to remain open. In fact, Meersbrook Medical Centre is also looking forward to a building upgrade and expansion in the near future.

Meg said:

“This is an issue I, working with my Labour colleagues across Sheffield, will continue to monitor closely and will be in touch with the CCG about. As well as being patients of Meersbrook Medical Centre, those at risk of being affected are also my constituents. It is crucial, therefore, that Meersbrook is given the resources to be able to continue to meet the needs of local people.”
