Lunch at White Willows

Thursday, October 2, 2014

Whilst out and about in Jordanthorpe, Heeley MP Meg Munn always enjoys stopping off at White Willows for lunch and to catch up with staff and residents.

White Willows is an extra care scheme managed by the South Yorkshire Housing Association, promoting independence in homes that are built to meet the changing needs of older people. The scheme caters for people aged over 55 and has 60 two-bedroomed apartments.

Meg met Joanne Fieldsend, Service Manager, Bev Seymour, Area Manager, and Jill Rhodes who spoke of their delight at how well the service is going. Residents at White Willows are lucky to have a packed weekly calendar of activities, ranging from knitting to bingo! They also host a ‘dementia café’ on the second Thursday of every month.

Meg was delighted to see that the ‘Turnaround Café’, staffed by head chef Dave Turton and his team from the South Yorkshire Probation service, continues to do a good trade.

Meg said:

“I always enjoy my visits to White Willows and particularly on a busy constituency day - what better way than with a wonderful meal of braised steak with all the trimmings - onions, potatoes, cabbage, carrots and turnip. My compliments as always to Dave and his team.”
