Justice for People with Learning Difficulties

Thursday, October 7, 2004

Meg recently spoke at a conference in Nottingham on the need for justice for people with learning difficulties. In her speech Meg stressed that the law is made for everyone. It must not be assumed that someone does not deserve the laws protection even if to get justice they require help or support.

Meg is Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Voice Group, who work to ensure that issues in parliament take into account the needs of adults with learning difficulties. While politics in the media is usually shown as disputes between political parties, there are many issues on which Members of Parliament from all sides agree. Those MPs in the Parliamentary Voice Group work together to make sure that those who often are not heard do get their needs and concerns listened to.

The successful conference was organised by the ‘Values into Action’ organisation and was very well attended by police officers, social care staff and adults with learning difficulties.
